Sto Len, Suminagashi print on paper, Polluted Waterways Monoprint, Brooklyn, New York: 2015-2017
Marbled Paper Made from Polluted Waterways
Sto Len is a printmaker and performance artist who, in his own words,“transforms the traditional Japanese printmaking art of Suminagashi (translates as “floating ink”) into an experimental collaboration with nature and a site of discourse on environmentalism and art activism… Working from a rowboat or off the shore, Sto uses an unusual process to print directly off of the surface of polluted waters. The end results are ghostly imprints, at once delicate, beautiful and also disturbing, offering us a glimpse of the environmental abuse that humans continually cause worldwide.”
